Personality
When questioning Quinn’s personality, you must ask yourself. Do you mean the manic personality or the depressive personality?
We’ll start with the manic personality. The ‘high’ of Bipolar Disorder.
Excitable Manic – Quinn’s manic personality is typically either very happy/excitable or extremely anxious and paranoid. When he is on a manic (or an ‘upswing’ as some doctor’s call it) he can truly believe nothing can hurt him. He thinks he is ontop of the world, that everything he does is genius. He is highly artistic in both forms of his Bipolar, but more so on the guitar playing/singing part when he’s on a manic.
He thinks very highly of himself in the more excitable manic, thinking he can get any girl he wants without consequence. He comes up with schemes to escape, but has never succeeded. He can make someone’s head spin with the changes in conversation, and is extremely friendly.
He’s a real charmer when it comes to his excitable mania, and is very promiscuous.
Anxious Manic – This type of mania is sheer anxiety that can keep someone suffocated in it’s grip. Quinn can have several anxiety attacks a day during this state of mania, and is very suspicious of everyone around him. He recluses to his room and refuses to leave, sure that once he steps outside the door the sky will start falling. During these manias Quinn is capable of thinking of everything that could go wrong, even if it’s not really feasible (such as a meteorite coming through the roof and killing him in a fiery inferno).
In both types of mania he can go days without sleep until his body just collapses from exhaustion, therefore it’s not uncommon to find him sleeping in odd places (once someone found him asleep in a full bathtub).
Middle State – Quinn, like many bipolar patients, that have been on the correct medicine for at least three-four months there can be a ‘middle state’ where he is having the lesser symptoms of both states, or having more aggression. After long periods on the correct medication (which needs to be monitored by staff familiar with the disease since many Quinn will take himself off of his medicines on a manic high because he feels ‘cured’ though it’s incurable, just manageable) he can become somewhat stabilized where he will have periods of ‘normal’ or average mood states. When he is not on medication or on the wrong kind, he will not hit this ‘middle state’.
Bipolar Depression – When Quinn is not in a high or middle state, he is in a depressive state (or a ‘down swing’ as it is called by some doctors) . He is severely depressed during these states, to the point he’s attempted suicide a few times. He becomes detatched from everyone, refusing to do much talking or opening up. He spends the majority of his time crying or sleeping and he will even slip into states that make him sleep several days at a time. He doesn’t enjoy much of anything, though is more highly artistic in his writing abilities during this time. He will talk about how much he hates life, and how he wants to die, and will need to be closely monitored by doctors.
Despite these various ups and downs Quinn is a very artistic soul who just wants to be accepted, loved, and understood. He has been here so long, Willowcreek has become his home. Due to “the incident” that happened when he was little he is very scared/panics when he sees blood. He also freaks when getting blood taken, because he sees his blood and it brings him back to that night. He regularly will faint at the sight of blood, thus why he will never try slitting his wrists as a suicide option.
Appearance
Quinn is quite a striking boy to look at. He has pale skin, almost flawless except for the faded, raised scars on his arms and wrists. He has a delicate look about him, with a smaller frame. He could almost be mistaken for a girl with the right things added. He has a cherubic, rounded face, though he isn’t chubby. He has long, lean arms and legs, no muscle visible at all.
He has green eyes that lend a very handsome contrast to his pale skin and pale pink lips. He has naturally black hair that is shoulder length and typically messy in an adorable sort of way. He regularly wears a light line of black eyeliner on his lower lids. Occasionally he will paint his nails black, when he can get one of the girls will lend him some.
His typical garb is anything black he can get his hands on. Even during his manic states he wears black, though dresses up more than in his depressed states. He prefers to wear long sleeves to cover up his failed suicide attempts. Converse are typical attire for shoes, and sometimes he wears the cross from a rosary on a silver chain.
All together he is a very sweet person. He is typically seen with some sort of notepad and a pencil in his hands, and a lopsided smile when he’s having a good day.
History
Quinn (originally born James) had a fairly abnormal childhood. He was born during the cold, harvest moon sky on October 31st of the year 1991, what his mom called being marked by ‘The Evil’. His mother was never really all there and his father walked out on them before Quinn was ever born. His mother was a highly religious, overzealous nutcase. Not in the pushy type of way, but in the way that she thought she was chosen specifically by God to give birth to a child that would be an offering (much like Isaac was supposed to be to Abraham in the bible) for peace in the world. Yeah, that kinda crazy.
When Quinn was about the age of six his mother had taken him into the woods, crying hysterically and laughing hysterically at the same time. He remembers being blindfolded and had his hands bound so he was off-balance and didn’t recognize the woods until he felt the sticks underfoot and smelled the pine trees. When his mom stopped walking, she took off the blindfold and he recognized the small clearing where he and other kids had played baseball.
He asked his mother again what was happening and he remembers her looking at him with sad, teary eyes and saying ‘You’re going to be with Jesus, son.’ To which Quinn panicked, and tried to run. His mother grabbed him and held him down on a large boulder. She kept mumbling about how she’d be pleasing Him, and how she had to give her child as a sacrifice, giving a hysterical chuckle every now and then.
His mother grabbed a large knife she had apparently brought from their house and slit both of his wrists, as he screamed in terror. As he was bleeding, and growing weaker he heard police cars and passed out.
He awoke, with both of his wrists bandaged, in a bed in the nearby hospital. He looked around, asking what happened, where he mommy was, ect. A pretty nurse named Quinn told him that his mom wouldn’t be able to hurt him and that a nice man would be finding him somewhere safe to stay. When she asked his name, he said Quinn. She smiled and got his name, which he said was Quinn James Williams. From then on James Isaac Wiles became Quinn James Williams. Since his mother was sedated, and there was no birth record for him, no one asked any questions.
A week later Quinn had recovered and was sent to his first foster home. The family couldn’t handle his bouts of aggression and crying about everything, so he was sent to a different home. Due to these bouts of excitability, agitation, and depression Quinn had lived in 10 foster homes by the time he was ten. His birth mother never tried to contact him, and the tenth foster home seemed to be the fit, that was until Quinn had a severe bout of depression after being bullied in the sixth grade (age 12) and swallowed a half of a bottle of aspirin. After recovering from having his stomach pumped he was referred to a psychiatrist who deemed him Bipolar Disorder type I. His parents put him on medicine until he hit a ‘high’ and refused to take them anymore, sending him spiraling down and ending with another trip to the hospital to have his stomach pumped.
He was sent to a group home after that, shortly before he turned 13 , since it seemed he had too many issues to be adopted and would be safer in state custody. The state took his diagnoses of Bipolar Disorder I as a joke, instead marking him as wanting attention and being just some more damaged goods.
When he was fourteen he finally found solace in a woman’s foster home. The woman was a thirty-something artist who was never able to have children of her own. She took in Quinn and never referred to him as anything less than ‘son’. After the required year period, and the first time Quinn had stayed on his medicine and been in therapy for longer than a few weeks, he was adopted, given the last name Ellis and had lived quite happily. But as it always was with Quinn he never seemed to be able to live a true happily-ever-after. He was being bullied at school because of his looks (somewhere between emo, punk, and retro), and people began to call him ‘emo’ because they noticed the scars on his wrists. Never bothering to ask what happened, they just made assumptions as all moronic high school kids do.
Quinn became severely depressed, despite his medication and had begun having anxiety attacks more often in school. Then the bullying went from verbal to physical. At the age of fourteen he was being beaten up on a daily basis and shut down to everyone around him, including his adoptive mother and therapist. The down spiral took a turn for the worst when he was thrown/kicked down two flights of stairs at school and decided it needed to end.
He picked out the most lethal of his prescription meds and took them to school, overdosing in the school bathroom. He’s not sure how long he lie there but finally he woke up in an ambulance. As per usual they pumped his stomach and as a last ditch resort he was thrown into Willowcreek, for fear of a relapse.
Here he has remained for five years. There’s days it seems there’s no hope for him.
